This was a good read and if this was the first book I'd ever read by this author, I would likely think it was very good. Alas, I've read her other work and this isn't as good.This story is about Maren and Dallas and is my least favorite trope, the second chance one. Years ago as teenagers, they were in love only for Dallas to leave with no goodbye, nothing. So when he pops back up in Maren's life twelve years later, she is understandably cautious but it can't stop her from falling for him all over again. However, Dallas is hiding a secret that could hurt Maren all over again. Let the angst commence.First, the good. Well written, believable love story, plenty of emotional investment in the story, and good pacing.The not so good. So much insecurity and not even from one of the main characters but both. It was so prevalent that I found myself getting pretty damn irritated at one or both several times in the story. I don't have a problem with the insecurity plot but it was just so much, so there, and that dead horse was beaten again and again. Less is more and in this case, I wish there was a whole lot less of the over abundance of internal insecurity driven diatribes from each main character.I'm sure my dislike of second chance romances had a factor in this rating. Also, I tend to like angsty books with a bit of humor to temper the emotions but this story didn't have that. For that reason, it's only a three star for me. Love, love, love!Thank goodness I decided to finish this book at home instead of taking it to work to read on my lunch break...I don't think my coworkers would have appreciated, or undertood, the sobbing. The last time I cried this much over a MH book was with Jack and After We Fall. And before that it was Sebastian and Some Sort of Happy. Dallas Shepherd has now joined the ranks of Jack and Sebastian as characters I just want to hug and love on and never let go!I loved this second chance romance between long lost high school sweethearts so much! Dallas and Maren were young, in love, and oh so happy...until Dallas disappears without a word. Now, 12 years later, he’s back. His plan was to return home, apologize and move on again, considering what’s going on in his life. Easier said than done, though, because once he sees Maren it’s like no time has past.Oh how Ms. Harlow tugged at my heart with this book! Dallas, guh, what can I say about him? He’s damaged and tormented, and so weighed down by what life has thrown at him.When he saw Maren neither of them were prepared for the feelings they had for each other to come roaring back. My goodness, when these two reconnected it was wonderful and sweet and so full of feelings. I just adored them together. And I loved how Dallas went out of his way to show her how sorry he was. But then he does the unthinkable...Nothing is ever easy, and Dallas, oh Dallas...as much as I wanted to love on him and hug him, I really wanted to shake him, too! Understanding his decisions didn’t make them any easier to accept. So much heartache and pain.I did not want to put this book down, as Dallas and Maren so completely stole my heart. Theirs was an emotional and passionate love that stood not only the test of time, but was able to survive secrets that could have really torn them apart. Only Him was a roller coaster of a ride that was worth every single tissue!
